First Grade-Here I come!

Luke is VERY excited about starting first grade! He doesn't seem nervous about starting a new school. He's still at the stage when we ask him what his favorite part of the day was, it's usually recess or getting cupcakes to eat. He seems to have a sweet teacher and we are looking forward to all that his year will hold.

Good Bye to Summer Day

This past Saturday, August 11th, we decided to celebrate Goodbye to Summer Day. It's our new holiday that we invented to tell summer farewell. Luke's new school starts earlier than others around here and it just doesn't quite seem time for school. To celebrate we decided to let Luke do some of his favorite things. First things first: Breakfast. No other place than Waffle House. Yummy! Next we had to get him a few more items to complete his uniform wardrobe. He got some new Adidas sneakers (which he can tie himself-thanks to Daddy!) and those lovely khaki and navy uniform shorts. After the dreaded errands, it was time for bowling. Millenium Bowl is Maumelle is great! Luke gets so excited! I think Daddy beat us both times, but it didn't stop us from having a perfect day.

Our New Pets

As many of you know, we lost Donnie (our cat) in a very unfortunate accident with the neighbor's garage door last Thanksgiving. The house has felt very empty without Donnie's presence and we (Luke & I) decided to look into getting another pet (or two!!!). We didn't want to get another cat. There was no way to replace our little freckle nose Donnie. We don't want to get a little yapping dog and we don't have a fenced in yard for a big dog. So we moved to the rodent family. Which one to select? After doing all kinds of internet research and many trips to the pet stores, we decided on two female guinea pigs. We got Luke Brownie (the brown one) and Bailey (the gray and white one) for his sixth birthday. They have a nice cage with a castle, food, fresh veggies and fruits, timothy hay and lots of poop! :) Luke is learning how to help me with the cage and Eric is learning how not to gripe about the guinea pigs...

We Don't Want to Come Home!

We had such a good time last week in Navarre Beach, Florida that we did NOT want to come home. We loved our condo, but the beach was the best!

Luke liked playing in the sand, collecting shells and hunting crabs at night. But his favorite things about the whole trip were the swimming pool and the Playstation 2 in his bedroom. Eric says we could have saved a lot of money and stayed at the Holiday Inn on JFK!

We met up with our friends Billy and Julie and their kiddos in Pensacola Beach for dinner one night. It was an adventure trying to crack open crab legs and whole lobsters. Next time, we are sticking with the shrimp. YUM!

We feel very blessed to have gotten a chance to get out of Arkansas for awhile to rest and relax. It was good to just be together-Mama, Daddy and Luke.

Last time at the beach...

This was the last time we visited Navarre-September 2004. Luke had just turned three years old and did not like the beach at all. He was scared of the waves and only enjoyed nighttime hunting of crabs. We are so excited about going again. Just the last minute packing left to do and we head out on Friday.

T-ball is over!

Luke played T-ball this spring at Sylvan Hills Optimist. This was his first season and he did all the typical things that new players do (i.e. looked at the clouds in the outfield, played in the dirt in the dugout, yawned a lot and was generally more interested in what color of Gatorade he was going to get instead of the actual game). He played second base and he was number three. Eric was the coach's assistant and really enjoyed helping Luke's team (though he got frustrated at times at Luke's lack of passion for the game). We started practicing in late February and we ended at the end of June. It was a long season, but Luke learned a lot and had fun. His favorite part of all games was the huddle at the end: "One...Two...Three..Go Mets!!!".
