Luke's Room

My friend, Leigh Ann, posted some pictures of her son's room and asked others to do the same. Luke's room is one of my favorite places to be. It's very bright, colorful, and eclectic in decorating style. It's always a work in progress. Most of all, it's very comfortable and he loves it. We got his little bed at a flea market. It's probably from the late 60s or early 70s. So cute! I splurged on his bedding (Pottery Barn-my first and only purchase from them!), because I loved the colors. It's a surfing theme and I found the grass skirt dust ruffle at Target which I thought was so cool! His organizational cubes save our life! Luke is a tad bit OCD about his toys getting out of order (i.e. Ben Ten toys are only in the green tub...this tub goes in the top left hand corner of the shelf on the left side of his bed...we may need to get him some medication! Ha! He sure didn't get that from his mama!). The colorful lanterns in the corner and the ribbon trim around the bulletin board I borrowed from my stylish friend, Julie!

My sister, April, came up with this idea for the picture frames (which I got at Dollar Tree) hanging from the letters in his name. Eric bought the easel at IKEA in Dallas! It has been one of our best purchases ever! Luke loves drawing on this. It's usually an action figure, animal or notes to us (my favorite!). Eric stained the toy box when I was pregnant with Luke. It is full of all his big toys like swords and light sabers.

I bought this dresser at a garage sale when I was pregnant with Luke. My father-in-law, Michael, painted it and I found these cute little drawer pulls at Target (the speech therapist in me loves that his drawers are all labeled by pictures). He may be about to outgrow this...so sad. The red wooden plaque above his closet is from 1st Samuel 1:27. It says, "I prayed for this child, and the Lord has granted me what I asked of Him." Hannah's words about Samuel are exactly how I feel about Luke. I feel so blessed to be his mom. His gentle spirit, funny personality and thoughtfulness toward others never cease to amaze me. I love my little boy!

What do you remember about your bedroom as a child? April and I usually shared a room. We had a canopy bed with patchwork bedding. She had tons of stuffed animals, a doll house and loads of Barbies. I had tons of books. Laura Ingalls Wilder, The Box Car Children, Nancy Drew, Judy Blume, and Beverly Cleary were many of my favorites. I used to make April play school and library. She hated it! Ha! I wish I had detailed pictures of my room back then...

I love Luke's room! You've done a great job! I will keep in mind his precise way of storing toys and gently place them on his bed so he can put them in their proper place! ;)
My sister and I shared a bedroom as well. We got the hand me down king size bed (it seemed huge, who knows it might have been a twin sized bed). It had shelves in the headboard with all of our knick-knacks. We used to play games when we were supposed to be sleeping...guess what is missing from the shelf. I always had a baby in my hand and longed for the day to be a real Mommy. The Lord has blessed me in more ways than I could have ever asked!

I absolutely LOVE Luke's room! Our son will be 15 months soon and I always wonder how I will decorate his room as he gets older?

I'm so glad you did this! Luke's room is too cute! I love the surfing theme! Very cute! I loved all those books you mentioned loving when you were little. They were the best. I can vividly remember my room. I shared with my sister until 6th grade. I wish I had pictures of it, too. Once my sister "saved" her Easter eggs and we didn't find them until about July! Not such a great memory of sharing a room! Ha!
